Bob's Book Club - The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Oh look my life isn't completely revolved around material things like make-up and clothes (*shocked face*). In fact one of my favourite things in the world is curling up with a good book! Recently I've been buying all my books on my Kindle and switching between reading them on it and the Kindle app on my iPad! Although I'm definitely going to buy this one in paperback as I love it (it's one of them books I want to see on my bookshelf)! I'll admit I hadn't heard of this novel before the film was released and I always insist on reading the book before watching the film! I didn't know much about what this was about and didn't even read the blurb before getting stuck in!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is written as a series of letters from Charlie to an anonymous person he doesn't know and is set in the early 90's in Pittsburgh. Through these letters we grow with Charlie as he discovers girls, alcohol, drugs and sex. It's written in such a funny and personal way it's so easy to read! The way Charlie thinks is one of my favourite parts of the book, he thinks about everything so differently to normal people! The music and literature made reference too in the book is also amazing! I'm thinking about writing out the list of books Charlie reads and reading them all myself (I already have read a few). It's emotional, funny, beautiful and I would definitely recommend it!

(Pictures stole from Tumblr!)

After reading the book in two days I immediately watched the film! Now I am one of them people that never ever enjoy the film half as much as the book. BUT for once this film is quite high up there! The characters are portrayed brilliantly (especially Charlie and Sam) and the style and emotion that I loved so much in the novel isn't lost in the film! Definitely worth a watch (and the 90's music is fabulous).

This week I also read John Green's novels Looking for Alaska and The Fault In Our Stars (I am a slight emotional wreck after them two) so I will hopefully get a post up about them next week! Has anyone any more book suggestions? I read so quickly I need long lists to keep me going!
